We are proposing to install an underground cable to connect the Pettywell Solar Farm and Battery Storage site, to the existing UK Power Networks Salle substation near Cawston, approximately 4.2 km away in a straight line. To minimise impacts on the town and surrounding communities, the route has been carefully designed to extend to around 6.4 km, running predominantly to the north of Reepham and avoiding the town centre and other sensitive locations.

In developing the route, Albanwise Synergy has worked closely with local landowners to prioritise the use of private land wherever possible. As a result, around 77% of the cable route will be installed across fields and privately or council owned land, significantly reducing the need for works on public roads and limiting disruption to residents and road users. The remaining sections, approximately 23%, will follow parts of the local highway network where necessary. We will be approaching Reepham Town Council to discuss the possibility of laying cables across Stimpson’s Piece to reduce works in the highway even further.

The construction process will take place in two main phases: first, installing underground ducts within trenches, and second, pulling the cables through and completing jointing works at designated locations along the route.

Overall, the works along the length of the cable are expected to take between 6 and 9 months, but this will be with teams moving along the route so the impact at any one location will be much shorter. Careful planning will ensure that any temporary traffic management measures, including short-term road closures or traffic lights, are minimised and coordinated with relevant authorities.

We are currently engaging with local residents and stakeholders to share information and gather feedback ahead of submitting a planning application to Broadland District Council in summer 2026. Please check out our Frequently Asked Questions for more information about the cable route works.
